Geschichte: I love to ski in Davos during my winter holidays and I always find the most beautiful rocks along the side of the slopes. Last year I found this shiny green schist on top of the Weissfluhjoch. I have to admit that I almost caused an accident whilst retrieving it but it was worth it for it is one of the most beautiful pieces in my collection!
Geologie: This rock is a serpentinite. It was once part of Earth's mantle which is located under Earth's crust. Under oceans, the crust is thin and cracks in the sea floor reach down into the mantle. There, sea water can infiltrate and alter mantle rocks to serpentinites. This serpentinite stems from under the ocean that was brought to the surface during the collision between Africa and Europe forming the Alps.
