Geschichte: I found the stone on the beach, it looked really nice with the black and the white. So I picked it up and when I turned it around I saw the worm-like fossil in it. I am very excited. I wonder what it is.
Geologie: The stone is a chert or flint (black) with chalk (white). You find tons of these on the Danish beaches. If you break the chert apart, you see the smooth, curvy and shiny black surfaces with razor-sharp edges. The latter made them very popular with people in the stone age. In the chalk, you can also find fossils, like the one you see here in the centre. This could be 70 million years old belemnoid or sea lily.
