Geschichte: Near the place where I picked up this small piece of marble, Michelangelo also found the boulder from which he carved the famous statue of David.
Geologie: Marble is created from limestone when it is transformed by rock metamorphosis (increased temperatures and pressure). Carrara marble is one of the best-known marbles in the world and was made famous by the Renaissance sculptor Michelangelo. White Carrara marble is characterised by its homogeneous, white to grey base color with shiny grains and smoky grey veins that run irregularly through the stone.
