Geschichte: For my master thesis, I investigated the relation between different types of rocks in ancient magma chambers in southern Namibia. There, we colleceted 150 samples. As it was January, it was extremely hot and I could only go into the field in the morning. Nevertheless, I have never felt so hot in my life! It was as if I was bathing in the magma chamber when it was still liquid!
Geologie: This rock is a syenite. It forms when magma slowly cools in a magma chamber. During cooling, different minerals grow in the magma until no liquid is left and solid rock remains. The different minerals can be recognised as white, red and black grains in the rock. We give a magmatic rock its name based on the type and amount of the minerals present.
