Geschichte: I found this stone while walking around the city of Uzhhorod, which is located in the west of Ukraine. In the city there is an old quarry. It is now partly flooded, but there is still much to be seen on the slopes. It used to be a lava eruption site. This is clearly seen in the volcanic rocks that are found there. You can just go to the old quarry to safely explore the real volcano!
Geologie: Pumice is a highly porous volcanic glass. The vesicles indicate that the lava has been violently ejected during an explosive eruption – with the rapid depressurisation leading to the release of volcanic gas. The volcanoes in this region, the Zakarpattia Oblast, erupted around 12 million years ago.
