Geschichte: Kodiak is not only exciting because of brown bears but also because of the rocks! The place is called fossil beach, and it is literally a beach full of fossils. Impressive! But the bears were nice too. The rotten seafood in the freezer that broke about two weeks ago was less exciting, though memorable.
Geologie: This rock is a siltstone full of bivalve fossils. The bivalves once lived in an ocean. When they died, their shells got burried by fine silt particles. The silt particles in turn originate from a river which brought them into the ocean. The loose mixture of shells and silt got burried deeper and deeper and thereby solidified to a solid siltstone.
